What is Aptos (APT)?

Aptos(APT) is a Layer 1 blockchain that utilizes the Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, Aptos is designed primarily to provide an accessible and simple-to-use blockchain platform with good scalability and efficiency characteristics across many decentralized networks.  

The network was designed using “Move programmable language”, a smart contract programming language, which is a major innovation by engineers from Meta’s (formerly Facebook’s) Diem project. Aptos aims to provide high transaction volume capacity and a fast transaction processing time making it ideal for building DApps and other real-life applications.

The ecosystem is developed by Aptos Labs, an organization that takes care of the project.

Due to its novel consensus mechanisms, Aptos can handle transactions up to 150,000 transactions per second, using the method of parallel execution. Furthermore, Aptos uses an algorithm called “AptosBFT” to build resilient consensus between validators, ensuring the immutable security and efficiency of the entire Libra network. 

Utility of APT- The native coin of the Aptos blockchain:

It powers the development and deployment of DApps across various industries, allowing for the initiation and implementation of projects.

The token is also used to enable users to perform safe and efficient transactions with one another, which makes it suitable for use in peer-to-peer exchanges. Also, the token supports the seamless transfer of assets from one blockchain to another through interoperability bridges that allow for cross-chain activities. 

APT supports Interoperability bridges that permit cross-blockchain transfers. It also helps in building community by reducing the cost of participation, instilling motivation, and helping to build long-lasting projects within the system.

History of the Aptos Blockchain?

Aptos was created in 2021 by Mohammad Shaikh and Avery Ching, the ex-employees of the Meta’s Diem project before it was disbanded. 

The network was built by Aptos Labs and was built using the technology developed for Diem, particularly the Move programming language. The launch of the Aptos mainnet took place on October 12, 2022, after months of development and testing. It simultaneously enabled smart contract execution and asset transfers. The network has capabilities for sharding and it's designed to utilize sharding when it is required.

Funding History of APTOS(APT): Several funding rounds were held in the year 2022:

• A $200 million seed round in March led to a partnership with Tiger Global and Multicoin Capital, while another $200 million Series A round in July included Dragonfly, Apollo Global, etc. In October, Aptos received a strategic investment from Binance Labs

On December 5, 2023, Aptos announced findings from Previewnet, which was a testnet allowing for improved network transaction capabilities.

From November 6 to 21, 2023, the testnet boasted peak values exceeding 30,000 transactions per second (TPS) through techniques like:

Storage Sharding: States are divided amongst multiple "RocksDB" instances that provide greater throughput. Mainnet implementation is scheduled for 2024 as part of a milestone to achieve a target of over 1 million TPS.

Aggregators: Enable parallelized execution for more efficient processing.

How does the Aptos blockchain Work?

The blockchain employs a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism.
Aptos distinguishes itself with several key features:

1. Move Programming Language: Aptos utilizes Move, a Rust-based language developed initially for Meta's Diem project, which prioritizes safety and flexibility for smart contract development.

2. High Scalability: The network can theoretically support over 150,000 tps using parallel execution, allowing faster and more efficient processing than most existing blockchains.

3. AptosBFT: This custom Byzantine Fault Tolerant algorithm enhances network resilience, ensuring the blockchain can operate even if some validators are offline or compromised.

4. Focus on Security: Aptos integrates automatic state analysis and leader rotation to adjust for non-responsive validators without manual intervention

Aptos Bridge

On October 19, 2022, LayerZero Labs launched the Aptos Bridge, which enables users to transfer assets like ETH, USDC, and USDT from other blockchains (Ethereum, BNB Chain, Polygon, Avalanche, and Optimism) to the Aptos network.

APT(Aptos) Coin Price Performance History

The Aptos token (APT) has an initial total supply of 1 billion tokens. As of 2024, approximately 533 million APT tokens are in circulation. The token distribution is as follows:

• Community: 51.02%

• Core Contributors: 19.00%

• Foundation: 16.50%

• Investors: 13.48%

APT tokens held by the community are managed by the Aptos Foundation to support growth initiatives.

The schedule for vesting of the tokens allocated for core contributors and investors is for four years effective immediately. 

To this end, Aptos distributed 20 million APT tokens to the early users of the testnet soon after their mainnet was launched on 19th October 2022. The launch price was highly volatile launching through ICO and the presence of many exchange platforms such as Binance and coinbase in the launch.

 The Aptos token achieved the highest price ever on record of $19.92 on January 26, 2023, and it also achieved the lowest price ever in history of $3.08 on December 29, 2022.

• 2025: The Apto price may reach a maximum possible value of 16.85$, a minimum possible of 5.76$ and an average of 10.28$.

• 2026: In the year 2026, it is predicted that it will reach a high of 28.97$, and will go as low as 10.28$, with the average price estimated to be 18.56$.

• 2027: The highest price of Aptos is forecasted to be $33.22, the lowest $15.78, with an average forecast of $25.00.

• 2028: The token is likely to reach its peak price of $45.61, with the lowest price of $20.36 and the average price of $30.91.
