What is Axie Infinity (AXS)? 

Axie Infinity is a popular web3 battle gaming platform inspired by Pokemon and Tamagotchi games, built on the Ethereum blockchain. The players in the game use Axies NFT creatures and collect other elements to build Kingdoms or complete tasks.

Launched in 2018 by two NFT enthusiast developers Trung Nguyen, and Aleksander Leonard Larsen (COO) under the gaming firm ‘Sky Mavis from Vietnam.  Later in June 2022, Axie Infinity Classic was shut down and replaced with Axie Infinity Origins. In November 2022, Axie Infinity Classic was brought back. From July 2024, both versions are available to play and earn AXS.

Axie Infinity Shards (AXS) and Smooth Love Potion (SLP) play vital roles in the Axie universe, enabling players to breed and trade Axies, which can generate more tokens through gameplay. AXS serves as a governance token, allowing players to vote on game decisions and earn rewards through staking, while SLP is specifically used for breeding Axies and can be earned through playing the game. Both tokens are tradable on exchanges, fostering an economy where players can earn, trade, and influence the direction of the game.

What is Axie?

Axies are digital creatures or NFTs that can be traded, bred, and used to fight battles in the game. There are about 9 classes plant, beast, bird, aquatic, bug, reptiles, mech, dawn, and dusk & having 6 body parts eyes, ears, horns, mouth back & tail.

For each part, an Axie possesses 3 genes. A dominant (D), recessive (R1), and minor recessive gene (R2). The dominant gene is determined as the physical body part present on the Axie when breeding has a chance to be passed down to offspring:

Dominant(D): It has a 37.5% chance of passing the gene to offspring.

Recessive(R1): 9.375%

Minor Recessive(R2): 3.125%

How does Axie Infinity Work?

Axie Infinity is a crypto game where players, collect, breed, and battle creatures called “Axies”, each represented as a unique NFT (Non-fungible token). In gameplay, players can engage in battles with others or AI components, earning rewards. 

Breeding allows players to create new Axies with inherited traits. The game features virtual land that players can buy and develop. 

It includes two tokens AXS and SLP  earned through gameplay and used for breeding.

Axie Infinity(AXS) History:

• In October 2018, Axie Infinity’s first battle system was released, and by March 2019 real-time card development battle system and application commenced. In December 2019, an alpha was released.

• In February 2021, Sky Mavis launched Ronin Wallet, which led to speeding up the transactions and eliminating gas fees for gamers to play Axie Infinity or any other dApp that runs on Ronin Network.

• In 2022, 40% of players belonging to the Philippines also considered Axie Infinity as an alternative source of income.

• On 23 March 2022, the Ronin network was hacked losing $620 million in Ether and USDC, a total of 173,600 Ether and 25.5 million USDC tokens were stolen in two transactions, it was noticed after 6 days. The largest breach of cryptocurrency damaged the value of SLP.

• April 2023, the Axie Infinity cryptocurrency had fallen by 99% from its all-time high, which reduced the number of players from 2.7 million to approximately 250,000.

Axie Infinity, AXS Price History:

• AXS (Axie Infinity Shards), the governance token of the Axie Universe having a total supply of 270 million, serves as the native cryptocurrency of the Axie Infinity ecosystem. 

• Axie Infinity Coin, AXS was initially distributed over an ICO Program that was in October 2020 for $0.10/AXS.

• First Listing for AXS was recorded in November 2020,  with a price of $0.10/Axie on the Binance Crypto exchange. 

• AXS had an all-time high price of $164.90 on Nov 7, 2021, and an all-time low of Axie Infinity was $0.12 on Nov 6, 2020, the earlier phase of its trading. (As of Sept 2024)
