What is Hyperliquid (HYPE)?

Hyperliquid is a decentralized exchange (DEX) built on its own layer 1 blockchain called Hyperliquid L1. It is designed for high-speed on-chain financial applications and is focused primarily on perpetual futures trading with an on-chain order-book model.

It runs on the HyperBFT consensus, enabling sub-second block confirmations and a throughput of up to 100,000 orders per second, making it suitable for decentralized trading. Traders are permitted to take leveraged positions without having to own the underlying assets. 

Jeff and Iliensinc, both graduated from Harvard, started Hyperliquid labs, incorporating a Band of experts from Caltech, MIT, Citadel, Hudson River Trading, and Nuro. The blockchain was officially launched in 2022, launching its Native token HYPE in November 2025.

After 48 hours, this price surged to $9.74, pushing the overall airdrop to about $3 billion. Additionally, unlike other blockchains, Hyperliquid did not reserve any allocations for private investors, VC, centralized exchanges, or market makers, thus reinforcing Hyperliquid's commitment to fair and community-driven token distribution.
