What is ORDI(ORDI)?

ORDI is a meme cryptocurrency built on the Bitcoin blockchain network. It provides a service of the Bitcoin ordinal protocol that allows trading and creation of NFT tokens on a single Satoshi (the smallest unit of Bitcoin) on the Bitcoin blockchain network.

It is the first-ever token that uses BRC 20 as a token standard of the Bitcoin blockchain network, founded by Casey Rodarm on January 20, 2023. The BRC 20 token standard is similar to the ERC 20 token standard of Ethereum; this showcases the technology's novel capabilities and helps it allow the creation and trading of tokens on the Bitcoin blockchain network.

The token standard used by ORDI BRC 20 was an experiment by Domodata on the Ordinals protocol, which aims to explore the similarity of implementing a mechanism to Ethereum’s ERC 20 tokens on the Bitcoin Blockchain network. The launch of the Ordi protocol was marked as the beginning of BRC 20 tokens.

What are Ordinal Protocols? 

Ordinal Protocol is a protocol that helps give every Satoshi a unique numerical identity, works on the BRC 20 token standard, and allows every Satoshi to be tracked, transferred, and combined with metadata into Satoshi, which contains information about the transactions.

You can encrypt Satoshis with text, pictures, or videos and transfer them via a Bitcoin transaction. Satoshi is assigned a unique number to get mined. The ordinal protocol is on-chain and does not rely on smart contracts, smart chains, or tokens other than Bitcoin. 

How does the BRC-20 Standard work?

A token standard BRC-20 is used to encrypt Satoshis with JSON data, or text structures. BRC-20 tokens enable features like token deployment, minting, and transfer on the Bitcoin blockchain and include the token's fundamental data (such as the maximum quantity and token ticker). 

BRC-20 is inspired by the ERC-20 token standard, but BRC-20 differs, as it does not have the capabilities of a smart contract and the Bitcoin protocol only identifies the transfer of Satoshis, not the inscriptions.

Hence, to maintain the wallets of BRC-20 tokens, BRC-20 needs a different database to identify and register the transactions called indexers, which are off-chain and centralized. To prevent problems like tokens minted over the set limit or duplicated tokens, indexers play an important role.
