Render (RENDER) is a decentralized network that enables peer-to-peer GPU computing solutions. The network allows individuals (lenders) with idle GPU computing power to lend it to those artists and developers who are working on animations, visual effects, motion graphics, and generative AI
The project was launched in 2017 by Jules Urbach, and OTOY is the parent company of Render Network located in Los Angeles, with an advisory board including market leaders like Ariel Emanuel (CEO, Endeavor), Mike Winkelmann (Artist, BEEPle), J.J. Abrams (Chairman & CEO at Bad Robot Productions), and Brendan Eich (Founder & CEO at Brave Software & BAT).
Render initially operated on the Ethereum network, which was then migrated to Solana with a community vote for fast and cost-effective transactions to happen. , and then the ticker was changed from RNDR to RENDER in 2024.
The network uses a proof-of-render mechanism to validate the transactions, which is a combination of manual and automated proof-of-work. Along with GPU computing solutions, it also provides a platform for developers to design applications for the digital economy.
Render (RENDER) is a GPU distribution network that connects artists or developers with the lenders to enable the sharing of GPU compute power. In return, lenders are rewarded with RENDER tokens.
The artists upload their designs to the network with the required specifications, and the network converts the designs into high-resolution images or videos. A dynamic pricing system evaluates the GPU workload, which calculates the price of rendering the design.
The workload is distributed by the network among other GPUs to reduce the load on a single GPU, which helps to speed up the process. The GPU renders the output, which is then verified by the proof-of-render mechanism.
The artist has to manually approve the rendered artwork, upon which the fees are released to the lenders. The rendered artwork is watermarked by the lenders to safeguard it from malfunctions until the payment is received.
Renamed from RNDR to RENDER in 2024, the token is the currency of Render system, that is used to pay lenders for providing GPU computing power.
The public sale of RENDER was held in October 2017, and the first private sale was held in January-May 2018, during which 117,843,239 tokens were sold at $0.25. The early adopters joined RNDR Beta Testnet and worked closely with lenders and artists to build and test the network, and then the token was launched on 27th April 2020 through an ICO at a base price of around $0.055.
As of October 2024, the token recorded an all-time high of $13.60 on 17th March 2024 and an all-time low of $0.03676 on 16th June 2020.
