What is Ronin (RON)?

Ronin Network is a sidechain specially designed for the gaming ecosystem. It is built on top of the Ethereum-Virtual Machine (EVM). Developed in February 2021 by Sky Mavis (the creators of Axie Infinity Crtpto) Ronin offers a seamless platform for decentralized games by addressing the challenges of high transaction fees and slow processing times. In 2023 Ronin began building on a Proof of Authority (PoA) mechanism transitioning to a more decentralized Delegated Proof of Stake (DPOS) model. This enabled token holders as their peers to participate in the network’s validation process actively

RON is the native cryptocurrency for the Ronin blockchain and is used within its ecosystem. The RON token was launched in January 2022 to facilitate transaction fees and reward validators.

RON is used within the Ronin ecosystem to cover the gas fees, allowing inexpensive transactions on the network. Besides RON can be staked, where the holders are rewarded while contributing to enhance the security of the network. Further, RON allows governance rights, thus voting power on the platform's operations and decisions.

RON Coin Performance

Ronin Coin (RON), is the official token of the Ronin blockchain. Tracking Ronin price over time shows its journey from an initial listing Price of $4.29 during the Token Generation Event. The Ronin blockchain development began in 2019 with Sky Mavis orchestrating the seed round with $1.5 million from investors such as ConsenSys (Company known for Developing the METAMASK Wallet), Hashed, and Accel. After the first round, there was a Series A funding round in Q2 2021 securing a total of $7.5 million from the notable Mark Cuban and 500 Startups Vietnam. And finally, the last funding in 2021 triggered the total fundraising to reach 150 million in a Series B round led by a16z (Andreessen Horowitz). 

As of January 2025, Ronin price has stabilized with a maximum supply of 1 billion RON and 380.7 million RON of circulating supply.

On-Ramp Providers: Official partners such as Ramp and OnMeta allow users to purchase RON into Ronin Wallet through fiat currencies directly. This can be done through the Ronin Wallet browser extension or the mobile app. 

Decentralized Exchange: The official DEX on the Ronin network called Katana allows you to swap other tokens for RON. You must have some assets on the Ronin network for you to be able to use Katana.

The Ronin Wallet is the official wallet built specifically for carrying out transactions on the Ronin Network. The wallet enables the easy transfer of tokens such as RON, AXS (Axie Infinity Shards), or SLP (Slow Love Potion). It has a browser extension and mobile app for a smooth user experience. Other wallets like MetaMask and Trust Wallet currently do not integrate with RON since they do not support the Ronin network.
