Sonic is a high-performance Layer-1 blockchain developed by Sonic Labs, the successor to the Fantom network. It is designed to enhance scalability, speed, and efficiency, supporting 10,000+ transactions per second (TPS) with sub-second finality. Sonic is EVM-compatible, allowing developers to migrate Ethereum-based applications seamlessly while benefiting from lower transaction costs.
The S Token (also S Coin) serves as the native asset of the Sonic ecosystem, replacing FTM. It is used for transaction fees, staking, validator operations, and on-chain
Sonic Airdrop – 200 million S coins allocated to early adopters and active users.
Claiming Starts: June 2025 (six months after launch)
Vesting Period: 270 days (until March 2026)
Innovator Fund – A 200 million S token initiative to support new projects.
Fee Monetization – Developers can earn up to 90% of transaction fees generated by their applications.
Additionally, Sonic Gateway provides a secure Ethereum bridge, which provides seamless cross-chain transactions. Sonic Crypto aims to improve blockchain performance and usability across DeFi, NFTs, and Web3 applications.
With the launch of the Sonic mainnet on December 18, 2024, Fantom (FTM) holders can migrate their tokens to the native S token at a 1:1 ratio. The migration process is designed to be simple and accessible through the Sonic Upgrade Portal. For the first 90 days, users can freely swap between FTM and S, after which only FTM to S conversions will be possible.
Sonic Labs is also working with major exchanges to allow direct FTM to S upgrades within their platforms. If your exchange does not support direct migration, you must withdraw your FTM to a self-custody wallet and use the upgrade portal. Staked FTM can also be migrated after a 24-hour withdrawal period, with Sonic’s new staking system requiring a minimum of 1 S token and a 14-day withdrawal period.
For liquidity providers (LPs), existing Fantom-based liquidity positions must be withdrawn, and individual tokens should be migrated separately before recreating liquidity on the Sonic chain. Holders of app tokens on Fantom Opera should check with their respective projects, as migration methods may vary between LayerZero bridging, airdrops, or hybrid models.
Visit the Sonic Upgrade Portal
Go to the official Sonic Labs upgrade portal to begin the migration process.
Connect Your Wallet
Use a supported wallet like MetaMask, Trust Wallet, or fWallet that holds your FTM on Fantom Opera.
Swap FTM for S
Initiate the swap process, and your FTM will be converted to S tokens at a 1:1 ratio.
Receive S Tokens
Once the migration is complete, your S tokens will appear in your wallet.
The S token is the native asset of the Sonic blockchain, serving multiple roles within the ecosystem. It is used to pay transaction fees, stake for network security, run validators, and participate in governance.
The Sonic (S) token operates on a well-structured economic model designed for long-term sustainability and ecosystem growth. A key feature is the Fee Monetization program, which allows developers to earn up to 90% of the fees generated by their applications, fostering innovation and adoption.
To boost network participation, Sonic Labs has allocated 190,500,000 S tokens for an airdrop. Distribution begins with 25% of tokens available immediately, while the remaining 75% will be locked for nine months. Users can withdraw locked tokens early, but at a reduced rate
Additionally, a burn mechanism ensures scarcity by permanently removing a portion of transaction fees from circulation. These strategies—developer incentives, user rewards, and controlled token supply—create a balanced ecosystem that drives sustainable growth while maintaining the long-term value of the Sonic (S) token.
Sonic can be bought on various crypto exchanges such as Binance, OKX, KuCoin, CEX.io, Gate.io, MEXC, Kraken, Bitget etc
To securely store your Sonic (S) tokens, you can use several compatible wallets. Popular options include MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Rabby Wallet, and OKX Wallet. For institutional needs, wallets like Fordefi, Safe, and Fireblocks are supported. To add the Sonic network to your wallet, use the following parameters:
